Leatherhead developed beside an old bridging point on the River Mole, where the Mole Gap cuts through the North Downs towards Dorking. That gives the town a mix of ground underfoot: flood meadows and riverside paths on the low side, chalk slopes rising to the south. Homes vary every bit as much. Older terraces and cottages sit close to the High Street, there are interwar and post-war family streets around the edges, and a fair number of modern flats and apartment blocks house commuters using the station. Further up the valley, Mickleham is a small village of period houses at the foot of Box Hill and Norbury Park. Rentals, family homes and older properties each bring their own kind of stains, from red wine on a lounge carpet to muddy pawprints across a cottage hall.
A stain is more than a cosmetic problem. Tea, wine or pet urine trickles down each strand to the backing, and when it is left sitting there the colour and smell can wick back up after the surface has been dabbed clean. Sugary spills stay slightly sticky, so they collect dust and darken over time. In homes near the river and the downs, damp mud dries into abrasive grit that settles around those marks and wears the pile. Carpets in rented flats often carry years of layered spots from different tenants. Sofas take a similar beating, absorbing drinks, food and body oils. Carpets that only ever meet a vacuum also harbour dust mites, allergens and bacteria, whereas a professional clean adds years to their life.
Stain work goes best when it follows a clear order, so we break our twelve-step process into three stages. Every one of them is carried out on each visit, from a studio flat by the station to a period house in the Mole Gap, and the time spent on each stain depends on what it is.
The technician walks the room with you, notes each stain and talks through what is likely to shift. That pre-inspection decides the products used. A full pre-vacuum takes away dry soil, furniture is moved clear and the carpet gets a pre-spray. Individual marks then receive their own pre-spot treatment, chosen for the type of stain, before a pre-groom works everything into the pile. Older riverside homes with years of foot traffic often need longer here.
Then the extraction starts. Hot water extraction goes by the name steam cleaning in many homes, and in our experience nothing beats it for stains, odours and dirt buried deep. Driving it is the Airflex Storm 800psi: its revolving brush shakes soil free, and two strong vacuum motors pull that soil into the tank. It is frugal with water by comparison with other kit, which keeps the backing from getting soaked.
Rinsing clears out every trace of detergent and resets the fibre pH to how it was when new; a neutraliser comes next. Any lingering shadow of a stain receives post-spot treatment. After that we groom, speed dry and inspect the finished carpet side by side with you. Around 80% of the moisture is gone at that point, and the rest normally takes 2 to 4 hours.

The problem
A sofa and carpet were both heavily stained, and one very big mark on the sofa was so bad the customer doubted it would ever come out.
What we did
Both pieces had their stains pre-treated first. Next, sofa and carpet went through hot water extraction followed by the pH-balancing rinse, with the work carried out quickly and efficiently from the first step to the last.
The result
The large sofa stain came out completely, leaving the sofa spotless, and the customer felt the job was well priced.

Wow! What can I say, right from booking the appointment the customer service has been amazing. I had booked in for my annual carpet clean and then last week we had an accident with a bottle of nail varnish (great timing 😉) so I really did put them to the test, see the photos attached! Thanks again Recce and Dave, I am so happy how all the carpets came out 🙂.Posted on Google![]()

Reece was very informative on the phone when I called. He took the trouble to explain the options. Keiran was very polite and cheerful and did a good job of cleaning the sofa. It was a bit expensive at £180 for the hour of work but a good servicePosted on Google![]()

Reaching for a shop-bought stain remover is a natural first move when something spills. Sometimes it helps a little, but it can also make a professional job much harder later on, because of what the product leaves behind in the carpet.
Pre-spotting is built into our standard process, so there is no separate charge for it. Ahead of the extraction, each mark gets a solution picked to match its cause: food, drink, mud or something the dog did. Pet odours get the same attention as visible marks. If something remains after extraction, it gets a post-spot too. Do let us know if you have already tried a product such as Vanish on a mark, because that changes how it is likely to respond.
Training is complete for every member of the team, and our insurance covers the work we do inside your property. Our products are child- and pet-safe and free of harsh chemicals, which matters when tenants, children or pets are back on the carpet soon after. Dirty water is emptied via the kitchen’s outside drain, or else an indoor toilet. If you must cross the room while it’s damp, we can lend you plastic overshoes. Nothing we do falls outside our 100% satisfaction guarantee.
We clean carpets and upholstery right across Leatherhead and out along the valley to Mickleham.
Yes, describe each spill separately and tell us how old it is. Different stains and fibres need different treatment, and earlier cleaning attempts can affect the outcome. Photos help with an initial discussion, but complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
The source may extend below the visible pile, so removing the surface mark may not resolve it. For a Leatherhead enquiry, explain where the accident occurred and what has already been used. We can assess the extent and discuss whether carpet treatment alone is likely to be enough.
Mickleham is included in our Leatherhead coverage. List the stairs and landings alongside the upholstered items, and send fabric labels where available. Include access details so we can discuss the whole job and the appropriate treatment for each material.
Dial 01483 980065, or fill the form in, and your free quote arrives at a price that holds. KT22 and RH5 are both covered, including Mickleham, and we clean stained carpets, sofas and rugs for homeowners, landlords and tenants alike, with no hidden charges.
Tell us what caused the mark and what has been tried on it, and we will give you a straight answer.
