Carpet Bird is run from Amis Road in GU21, so this is not a far-flung patch for us; it is home. The Basingstoke Canal runs right through it, and the town mixes commuter flats close to the station with Victorian and Edwardian houses, interwar semis and the post-war streets of Sheerwater. Out east, Send and Ripley sit beside the River Wey, where riverside paths and water meadows send damp mud indoors on boots. To the west, Pirbright, Brookwood and Bisley back onto open heath, and sandy soil and pine needles find their way into every hallway, especially with a dog in the house. Each of these homes asks something different of its flooring: a stair runner in an older terrace, a pale wool twist in a detached house, or a busy rental lounge that needs freshening between tenants.
Most carpet damage starts with things you barely notice. Fine sand carried in from the heath around Bisley and Pirbright behaves like sandpaper: each footstep grinds it into the roots of the tufts, so the lane from front door to kitchen flattens and greys long before the rest of the room. Stairs take the worst of it because every tread carries the full weight of a foot. Cooking fumes and outdoor grime leave an oily film that grabs fresh dirt, which is why a carpet vacuumed daily can still look tired. Pet accidents blotted only on the surface soak through to the backing. Gradually, the same fibres become home to dust mites, allergens and bacteria. Booking a proper clean once a year, as a minimum, clears that build-up and adds years to the carpet.
Every job follows the same twelve-step routine, whether it is a one-bedroom flat by the station or a five-bedroom house in Pirbright. We group those steps into three stages here, so you know what is happening in your home and why each part matters.
Reece opens every visit with a look over the carpet or fabric, taking note of fibre type, thin patches and the marks that bother you. A thorough pre-vacuum lifts loose grit, then lighter furniture is moved aside. Walkways are misted with pre-spray, each awkward spot is dabbed with its own pre-spot product, and a grooming brush stands the tufts up so nothing sits on top. In older Woking terraces we take particular care around stair rods, fitted runners and narrow landings.
Steam cleaning is what most customers call it; the trade name is hot water extraction, and it forms the heart of the visit. On the Airflex Storm 800psi, a spinning brush head churns through the tufts and shakes out trapped soil; twin vacuum motors then haul that grey water up into the tank. Water use is modest compared with most rival machines, so nothing soaks through, which counts for a lot in upstairs flats with neighbours below.
Next, a rinse resets the tufts to their factory pH and carries off every trace of detergent, with neutraliser straight after. Stragglers are post-spotted, the nap is brushed level again, and air movers speed up drying. Expect four-fifths dry as we load the van, and bone dry somewhere between two and four hours later. Last of all, you and Reece walk each room together and check the finish.

The problem
The customer had relocated to the Woking area from Scotland. Their sofas spent time in storage before the move south and came out with water damage, not what anyone wants after a long relocation.
What we did
After checking the fabric, Reece put the sofas through a thorough extraction clean. Afterwards we reapplied Scotchgard so the upholstery has a protective barrier against future spills.
The result
In the customer’s view the sofas came back as good as brand new, and they rated both the workmanship and the value for money.
The problem
The customer had planned to replace the carpet in their master bedroom and throw out a sofa bed. With living costs rising, they decided to keep both for another year and asked us to clean them instead.
What we did
We cleaned the bedroom carpet and the sofa bed with our usual hot water extraction process, keeping the room neat and tidy as we went.
The result
The difference surprised them. They said a new carpet and sofa bed were no longer needed, and they noticed how tidy the team had been.

Wow! What can I say, right from booking the appointment the customer service has been amazing. I had booked in for my annual carpet clean and then last week we had an accident with a bottle of nail varnish (great timing 😉) so I really did put them to the test, see the photos attached! Thanks again Recce and Dave, I am so happy how all the carpets came out 🙂.Posted on Google![]()

Reece was very informative on the phone when I called. He took the trouble to explain the options. Keiran was very polite and cheerful and did a good job of cleaning the sofa. It was a bit expensive at £180 for the hour of work but a good servicePosted on Google![]()

Always a good job. Punctual polite and very thorough. 6 montly visits keep our cream living room carpet like new!
Renting a machine from a supermarket for the weekend can seem like the cheaper route. The results depend heavily on equipment and know-how, though, and home attempts tend to fall short in a few predictable ways.
Once the carpets are in the diary, the sofa standing on them is the obvious next candidate. We can clean upholstery during the same appointment, and Reece assesses the fabric first because the method depends on the fibre and how soiled it is. Cotton, wool, linen and silk need a different approach from polyester, nylon, acrylic or microfibre, and blends fall somewhere between. Leather suites get their own treatment. Use the quote form to attach photos of the furniture, and we will price the carpets and upholstery together.
Nothing harsh goes into your home: every product Reece uses suits households with toddlers, dogs and cats. Training and full insurance cover everyone who works on your floors, giving you protection should something go wrong. Furniture is moved carefully and returned to its place. Dirty water from the tank is emptied into a toilet indoors or a kitchen drain outside. Feel free to cross the room right after we finish, wearing slippers or clean indoor shoes whose soles are not rubber; plastic overshoes are in the van as well. All of it sits behind our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

A professional clean every 6–12 months is a useful guide, with the right interval depending on pets, children, foot traffic and the carpet’s care requirements. Busy entrances may need attention sooner than spare bedrooms. Keep up regular vacuuming between visits and ask for advice based on your carpet’s condition.
